Already the early works of Chingiz Aitmatov (1928–2008) were distinguished by special drama, complex problems, and ambiguous solutions to problems. Gradually, penetration into the secrets of life, the essence of the most important issues of our time became deeper, the scope of life events expanded, and philosophical motives intensified; contradictions and collisions reached great strength and expressiveness. In his comprehension of the laws of existence and the meaning of life, the writer acquired a special, unique style, and the images reached a new level of symbolism, highlighting in many of them the purity of thoughts and the beauty of souls. The heroes of “Early Cranes” are children, students of grades 6–7, during of the Great Patriotic War, replacing the fathers who went to the front, truly feeling responsible for the harvest. The fate and spiritual drama of old Tanabai are at the center of the narrative “Farewell, Gyulsary!” The story “My Poplar in the Red Scarf” tells about difficult and unhappy love, while “Djamila” talks about the true beauty of real feeling.
