He wrote in Russian and Yiddish. In 1922 he emigrated to Germany, in 1933 he moved to Latvia. Here he completed a ten-volume history of the Jewish people. The complete Russian-language edition of the book in the original and in the final author's editing was published in Riga in 1934-1938. This reprint of the Western history of the Jewish people was made from the Riga edition.
