Stefan Zweig's novel Christine Hoflener (1929) was originally called The Hops of Transfiguration. This is the story of a modest girl who stands behind a desk at a post office in the Austrian wilderness. Christina has long resigned herself to a miserable, beggarly life, to the daily routine. She seems to be forever stamping envelopes. But suddenly, for the first time in her life, she receives a telegram: “We are looking forward to seeing you…”. And now, thanks to an overseas fairy aunt, Christina goes to a luxurious Swiss resort. It seems that before us is a fairy tale about an Austrian Cinderella. However, even the most beautiful ball comes to an end, and not a single wizard knows what will happen tomorrow.
