The book, based on the material of ancient written sources, paints a holistic picture of the military affairs of the Sarmatians - nomads who lived in the steppes of the Northern Black Sea region, and the Alans who later replaced them in the historical arena. The monograph examines various aspects of military culture that could be found in the sources: strategy, tactics, organization of troops, commands, weapons, life on the march, etc. In terms of the breadth of its coverage, the book has no analogues in world historiography.
