Anton Viktorovich KorolenkovThe first civil war in Rome. - St. Petersburg: Eurasia, 2020. - 464 pp. The beginning of the era of civil wars in Rome was the speech of the Gracchi in 133 BC. e., but the actual wars began in 88 BC. e., when Sulla led his legions to Rome and took it by storm. At first no one realized the scale of what had happened, but a year later the opponents of the order established by Sulla themselves went to Rome and took possession of it. In 83 BC. e. Sulla returned from the East, interrupting the war with Mithridates VI of Pontus, to deal with his enemies in Italy. Almost two years of heavy fighting ended with the Battle of the Collin Gate on November 1, 82 BC. e., the terrible epilogue of which was the beating of several thousand prisoners by Sulla, and he himself became a dictator. For several more months, fighting continued in different parts of Italy, Africa, Spain... But these years were not only filled with battles. Slowly but steadily the issue of the rights of Italians was resolved, the administrative division of Italy was changed, and the financial system of Rome was put in order. This was a turning point in which the last years of Sulla, Maria, and Anthony the Orator occurred, and Caesar, Pompey, Crassus, and Cicero made their first nags in politics. There were new civil wars and the death of the republic ahead. Reviewers: Yu. B. Tsirkin, Doctor of Historical Sciences. V. K. Khrustalev, Candidate of Historical Sciences
