In the distant future, a young and promising architect gives up love for the sake of his career. He thinks that everything is ahead, but no matter what he does, no matter where he goes, no matter what masterpieces he builds and no matter how many honors he receives, the spirit of loneliness haunts him everywhere. This is aggravated by the inability to return to his home planet, because there the hero is considered guilty of the death of his beloved girl. He lives on a cold planet ruled by soulless robots who help him hide from the law. The services of an architect, like other talented people whom robots are ready to shelter, are necessary for them to build a new society.
