The collection of short stories by the Queen of Navarre (1492 - 1549) was conceived as a French analogue to Boccaccio's Decameron. In the collection, the theme of love varies with great variety - sometimes sublimely, sometimes frivolously and uninhibitedly, the short stories tell about the love affairs of the heroes. The first edition became the forerunner of the French romance novel.
