How a Christian should relate to his health and his illness, how to accept a terrible diagnosis, how to come to terms with the inevitable end and loss of loved ones - all these questions serve as the topics of letters to St. Theophan the Recluse to different persons. The saint, calling sorrows and illnesses a school of faith and patience and a sign of God's love, consoles his spiritual children, calls for patience in the sent test and inspires them with hope for martyr's crowns, because only through many sorrows must we enter the Kingdom of God (Acts 14:22 ).
