In the play "Locust" all the characters are in a state of permanent war with each other: a beautiful wife wipes her feet on her rag-husband, her homosexual brother throws his weak-minded father on the street so that he does not return home again, mother and daughter cannot and talk for five minutes without mutual reproaches, and the television journalist, suspicious to the point of mania, sees a spy in every pretty girl. These people do not know how to love, they are selfish to the last degree, have a consumerist attitude to life and assert themselves by eating each other. No wonder Biljana Srbljanovic compares them to locusts. Everyone here is “good”, everyone deserves contempt and at the same time sympathy - if only because their motives are humanly understandable.
