Alexander Galich is a whole era, a short and tragic era of insight and resistance of the Soviet intelligentsia of the 1960-1970s. The tape recordings of Galich’s songs, which sold hundreds of thousands of copies, in terms of the power of their impact, their significance for the cultural consciousness of these years, for the painful “growing up” of several generations and their awareness of modernity and history, can be compared with the works of A. Solzhenitsyn, Yu. Trifonov, N. . Mandelstam. Prepared by the poet’s friend and colleague, the almost complete collection of Galich’s poems allows us to better understand the place in the history of Russian literature of the 20th century occupied by this unusual poet, who, together with V. Vysotsky and B. Okudzhava, transformed “urban romance” into a new genre of high poetry. In the overwhelming majority of cases, the publication takes into account only printed sources of Galich’s works, which corresponds to the fundamental goal of introducing the reader to the poet, and not the “bard.”
