For the tenth year now, a regiment of Northern Yankees under the command of Andrew Kip, together with other peoples abandoned on the unknown planet Valdenia, has been fighting its bloodthirsty rulers - ruthless cannibal savages. Hans Schuder, Kip's best friend and mentor, was wounded in one from the battles, he is captured by the Bantags. They are led by Gaark the Savior, a former university student on one of the distant planets that has surpassed Earth in technical development. Gaark cunningly seized power in the horde and is hatching ambitious plans that threaten the existence of the young Russian-Roman Republic. Together with his comrades languishing in Bantag captivity, Hans organizes an escape in order to inform his friends about the plans of the treacherous leader and the state-of-the-art weapons he has and to give them the opportunity to prepare for the inevitable war. If the jailers overtake the fugitives, they will face a painful death, and all the hopes of the peoples of Valdeia to gain freedom will be cut short by the blow of the Bantag sword.
