Yuri Konstantinovich Terapiano (October 21, 1892, Kerch - July 3, 1980, Gagny near Paris) - Russian poet, prose writer, translator and literary critic of the “first wave” of emigration, organizer and participant in a number of literary associations in Paris. Author of six collections of poetry. “His poems are one of those behind which the fields of metaphysics open. The words in them acquire a new meaning, as it were, created by the melody of sounds and rhythm, transforming the content of the poem.” This is what I. V. Odoevtseva, who knew him for many decades, said about him. At the same time, Khodasevich pointed out the lack of literary originality in Terapiano’s “smooth” poems, his “undoubted ability to repeat someone else’s” (Vozrozhdenie. 1935. No. 3697. July 18. S.3). This shortcoming, according to Khodasevich, was largely overcome in the third book of Terapiano’s poems “In the Wind” (Paris, 1938), which, “having lost in integrity gained in truthfulness”: “... having become himself, Terapiano could not not to write several poems in which there is something of one’s own, unique - and thereby necessary for others" (Vozrozhdenie. 1938. No. 4159. November 25, p. 9). Having absorbed the moods characteristic of many poets of Russian Paris (internal anxiety , disillusionment, a sense of restlessness, the drama of everyday life), Terapiano’s poetry retained its originally inherent “neoclassical” orientation, a desire for refined craftsmanship, loyalty to the poetic traditions of the early 20th century, and religious aspiration. This collection of poems includes five of the six published collections (in full) for many years of the poet’s creative activity. As well as the section “Selected poems from different years. Other editions", compiled from materials found on the Internet, including electronic copies of periodicals of Russian diaspora. Unfortunately, in modern Russia, no serious and complete editions of Yuri Terapiano’s poetry have yet been made. Such a complete electronic publication has become possible thanks to the painstaking work of finding and scanning the poet’s books (collections “The Best Sound” (1926), “In the Wind” (exact page-by-page publication in pdf format - u003dshowbook&pidu003d1073), “Earthly Wandering” (1951), “Sails” (1965), “Selected Poems” (1963) (exact page-by-page publication in pdf format - html)) — Andrey Nikitin-Perensky, creator of the electronic libraries “ImWerden” and “Second Literature” Spelling and punctuation are mainly brought into line with the norms of the modern Russian language.
