From the point of view of strategy, without exaggeration, the Second World War can be called a naval war - almost none of its campaigns, to one degree or another, could be done without the participation of the fleet. In this, the Second World War was strikingly different from the First, the fate of which was decided on land, and the fleets played a secondary role. The only exception was the confrontation between Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union, but here, too, the influence of military operations at sea was of exceptional importance - just remember the famous polar convoys. In all other campaigns, the fleet solved strategic problems - in the Atlantic it was a struggle for the connection between America and Europe, in the Mediterranean Sea - between Europe and Africa. It was the fleet that played a decisive role in the Allied landings in Normandy. In the Pacific, combat operations were generally carried out exclusively by fleets, and land battles were of a tactical nature.
