The works of the outstanding English writer David Herbert Lawrence - novels, stories, travel stories and essays - form an integral part of the literature of the 20th century. This collection of works includes both world-famous novels and those published for the first time in Russian. The fourth volume includes the novel “Rainbow in the Sky,” which is published in a new translation. D. H. Lawrence’s compatriots only realized the degree of true innovation of “Rainbow” decades later. The stubborn rejection of the novel by British critics was able to be shaken only by Frank Raymond Leavis, who in the middle of the century published a number of informative articles about “The Rainbow” in the pages of the literary magazine “Scrutiny”; later this work took a prominent place in his monograph “D. G. Lawrence the Novelist.” At the turn of the 1900s, a significant reappraisal of the novel took place on both sides of the Atlantic; in the 1970s and 1980s, “The Rainbow,” along with its thematic continuation, the novel “Women in Love,” is unanimously recognized as a masterpiece of Lawrence’s prose.
