“Arctic Summer” is how Edward Morgan Forster, a classic of 20th century English literature, titled his latest novel. In Soviet times, an unspoken ban was imposed on Forster’s works, and only in recent years have Russian readers been able to fully appreciate the writer’s extraordinary talent. His two most famous novels, A Room Overlooking the Arno and Howards End, brought him worldwide fame and are included in authoritative lists of the best novels of the century. Damon Galgut, who managed to deeply imbue Forster’s work and unravel his complex inner world, wrote his "Arctic Summer", taking as a basis one of the most interesting episodes of Forster's biography, connected with life in the East, the result of which was the writer's main novel, "A Passage to India". Galgut managed to create a surprisingly bright painting with a spicy oriental flavor, which reflected both the philosophical understanding of his creative path and the secret that became for Forster a humiliating stigma and a hidden source of happiness.
