“The Diary” of the American writer Anaïs Nin, who lived in Paris for a long time and was in close relations with Henry Miller, can be an excellent addition to his work. The diary describes in detail the time spent in the company of the writer and other creative intelligentsia of Paris in the 1930s. Their problems and worries seem mere trifles in comparison with what so many will soon have to endure with the advent of Nazism. From reading Anais Nin, it becomes clear that she was one of Henry Miller’s mistresses, which she naturally told about on the pages of the “Diary” . Leafing through it, you imagine how this “poor” woman rushes around Paris, torn between love for her husband and lust for this little bald man. But not only him. One of the heroes of the “Diary” is Otto Rank, a famous psychoanalyst at that time, a student and loyal friend of Freud, who conducted a course of psychoanalysis with the writer. This treatment gradually developed into a kind of love relationship. The diary itself is as frank as the writer intended it to be. Despite all the documentation, we should not forget that it is still a work of art, most likely originally conceived by the author for publication. Connoisseurs of Miller’s work in the Diary will find many new details of his biography, will be able to look into the writer’s “creative kitchen” and become witnesses how he worked on some of his works, discussed them with friends, trusted Anais Nin to proofread them. This edition of the Diary has a kind of calendar as an appendix. It is called "The Diary of Anaïs Nin in the Context of History" and covers the period from November-December 1931 to October 1934. The calendar marks the main milestones from the biography of Anaïs Nin, “far-fetched” to events in Western literature, culture, science and world history in general.
