In 1903, two women - Amelia Satch and Annie Walters - were executed in London for infanticide. Thirty years passed, and Josephine Tay decided to write a novel about the notorious “baby killers.” However, work on collecting material was suddenly interrupted. Literally two steps from an elite London atelier, where the entire fashion world gathers, a brutal double murder was committed between the young milliner Marjorie Baker and her father Joseph. At first, Archie Penrose, who is entrusted with the investigation, is inclined to the simplest explanation of what happened. But it soon becomes known that the husband of child killer Amelia Sach was hiding under the name Joseph Baker. Then Josephine Tay gets involved in the case, who guesses from the very beginning: the key to solving this crime should be sought in the past...
