Leni Riefenstahl's "Memoirs" (1902–2003), translated into Russian for the first time, are truly a sensational monument to the era, capturing time through the eyes of one of the most talented women of the 20th century. A dancer and actress, who at the beginning of her life worked with the most famous Western actors, she later became famous as a brilliant master of documentary cinema, perhaps the main classic of this genre. Her films such as Triumph of the Will (1935) and Olympia (1936–1938) will forever remain grandiose monuments to the “grand style” of the totalitarian era. Highly regarded by Hitler, Riefenstahl knew his entourage closely. Goebbels, Goering, Himmler and other bonzes of the Third Reich are described by her vividly, with an abundance of everyday and even intimate details. In the post-war years, Riefenstahl devoted herself to studying the life of African tribes and underwater photography of oceanic flora and fauna. She spoke about her exotic hobbies of recent decades in the second part of the book.
