The Red Room is considered the first naturalistic novel in Sweden. This novel, written in 1879, put its author, August Strindberg, among the leading writers of the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. The conflict between external appearance and the inner essence of people and life phenomena, the high power of love, often tragic, the opposition of a small person to great evil - all this is saturated in the works of the writer and playwright. His innovative views on the performing arts itself are timeless, and Strindberg's plays have not left the world stage to this day.
