Kurt Aust, a Dane who now lives in Norway and writes in Norwegian, immediately became famous when he published his first novel, “Judgment Day” (1999). The author received the “Best Debut” award from the Askehaug publishing house, and the book was translated into several European languages and published in Germany, Denmark, Greece, the Netherlands, Lithuania and the Czech Republic. The plot, almost canonical for a medieval novel, brings to mind Umberto Eco. In the confined space of an inn, cut off from the world by a snowstorm, several travelers found shelter on New Year's Eve. Among them are the Danish professor Thomas Buberg and his student, the Norwegian Petter Hortten. It is they - and these are Aust's favorite characters who will later appear more than once in his books - who will have to unravel the mystery of a terrible crime: shortly before their appearance on the farm, a French count was killed...
