“Kojiki” (Japanese: 古事記), i.e. "Records of Ancient Deeds" is the earliest monument of Japanese literature, dating back to 712. This text includes three scrolls containing mythological and historical information from ancient Japan. Within the framework of Shinto - the national Japanese religion - "Kojiki" rightfully takes the place of one of the two most important sacred scriptures (along with "Nihon Shoki", which is also called "Nihongi" - "Annals of Japan".
