The monograph, written by renowned historian and political scientist Alec D. Epstein, examines the negotiation process between Israeli and Palestinian leaders in the 1990s and 2000s, from contacts before the Oslo Agreement to the present. The history of diplomatic activities, in which both representatives of the parties and influential international intermediaries were involved, is supplemented by a consideration of public opinion polls, allowing us to assess the extent to which government officials can count on support from society if they initiate certain steps aimed at changing the current situation. currently the situation. The author proposes to move from the paradigm of bilateral negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Authority to an approach that prioritizes the strengthening of Israel’s relations with the border countries - Jordan and Egypt, expressing the opinion that only such a tripartite interstate format can give hope for resolving the Palestinian problem. The book, based on documents and evidence, most of which have never been published in Russian, is of interest both to diplomats and international relations experts, and to anyone interested in the problems of the Middle East.
