The Complete Works of V. A. Zhukovsky, for the first time in editorial practice, represents the legacy of the great Russian poet in the most complete volume to date. Zhukovsky's texts are given on the basis of a critical understanding of all the poet's known autographs and lifetime publications. The composition of the 6th volume was determined by Zhukovsky's translations from Homer. “Excerpts from the Iliad” (1828), “Odyssey” (1842-1848), and “Iliad” (1849) became stages in the Russian poet’s comprehension of the Homeric epic. They went down in the history of Russian literature as wonderful monuments of Russian translation culture. In the section “From draft and unfinished texts,” a fragment of Zhukovsky’s grandiose plan associated with the Homeric epic, “The Tale of the Trojan War,” is published for the first time.
