The book offered to the reader's attention consists of two sections. Section I, actually humorous, contains jokes, funny poems and stories, funny word games. But a book consisting entirely of anecdotes and intended only for laughter would not be very attractive to the thoughtful reader. Therefore, the book also contains section II, which represents a historical dotted line of major medical events and persons. It contains fragmentary descriptions of many unusual episodes and situations, stories of historians, eyewitnesses and folklore legends stretching from the Middle Ages to the present day. The most striking, unusual fragments of biographies of outstanding doctors of the past and present are presented. Their great discoveries did not always occur in standard conditions of clinics or biological analytical laboratories. Sometimes doctors performed feats of self-sacrifice, inoculating themselves with plague, anthrax, cholera, malaria and other deadly infections. In this historical and educational part of the book, a total of 172 doctors are mentioned (approximately half of them are our compatriots), among whom there are many famous names. In a popular form, the book introduces the reader to many medical situations that may occur in the lives of each of us. The book may be useful to medical students studying a course in the history of medicine. But at the same time, it is intended not only for doctors, but also for all connoisseurs of entertaining literature, full of both comic and dramatic episodes.
