The book of Metropolitan Veniamin (Fedchenkov, 1880-1961) “God's People” is dedicated to the ascetics of the Orthodox Church who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Each story contains a description of the life path, deeds and miracles of the saint of God, and the testimony of his contemporaries. These vivid, deep, memorable stories are based on the Bishop’s personal encounters with “living saints,” and that is why they are so convincing. The author carefully and humbly fulfills his task: unlike many memoirists, he is not engaged in depicting his own personality, his goal is to capture the image of an ascetic. Metropolitan Benjamin was a great man of prayer, and the Lord rewarded him with the rare gift of seeing the sacred in a person. People reverently venerate the saints of God, about whom the bishop wrote, to this day.
