The Georgian-Abkhaz war of 1992-1993 had enormous consequences for the post-Soviet space. This war blocked the most important transport arteries, significantly complicating communication between Russia and Transcaucasia. This war made the Abkhaz issue top of Georgia's political agenda and became the most important obstacle to the development of Russian-Georgian relations. This book is an attempt to draw the most general contours of the long and difficult history of interethnic relations. It contains fragments from published speeches, documents and memoirs that are related to the national problems of Abkhazia from the time of the collapse of the Russian Empire until the start of the Georgian-Abkhazian war. For the convenience of the reader, a brief chronology of the history of Abkhazia 1917 -1992 is also provided. Compiled by: K.I. Kazenin, afterword: O.R. Airapetov.
