There is no more painful grief on earth than orphanhood... Moreover, orphanhood with living parents. The child’s pain is eased by human kindness, the compassion that has always been characteristic of our people. But no one can replace a child’s real parents. This is how the nature of the human soul ordered it. It is doubly terrifying when cruel and selfish people hide behind a holy sense of duty where, it would seem, such a blasphemous thought could not arise - in some of our orphanages and schools. How could this happen? Who is to blame for the cruelty of the younger generation?
