The world-famous Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa (born in 1936) - along with Gabriel García Márquez, Julio Cortazar, Carlos Fuzntes - is one of the largest prose writers in Latin America. His novels “The City and the Dogs”, “The Green House”, “Conversation in the Cathedral”. “Pantaleon and the Company of Good Offices”, “War of the End of the World” and others have been published in almost all languages of the world, including Russian. In his latest novel, “The Wicked, or the Feast of the Goat,” the author addresses the theme of power and impotence of power, which has long become traditional in Latin American literature. The subject for study in this case was one of the most odious dictators - Rafael Leonidas Trujillo, who ruled with an iron fist in the Dominican Republic since 1930. to 1961 and killed by his own associates. Deep penetration into the psychological depths of the tyrant’s personality, into the mechanism of his magical influence on those around him, whom he suppresses and corrupts, makes the novel by Mario Vargas Llosa one of his best works.
