This volume includes the best, most interesting and popular plays of seven playwrights from Germany, Ireland, Spain, Italy, Nigeria and the USA. The collection opens with a play by the Spaniard José Echegaray, Nobel laureate in 1904, and ends with a play by the Italian Dario Fo, who received Nobel Prize in 1997. Translations of the plays by X. Echegaray “The Great Galeotto” and X. Benavente “The Game of Interests”, made in pre-revolutionary times, are given in a new edition. The collection includes a new translation of Y. O'Neill's play “Hunger under the Elms.” The publication of the plays is accompanied by articles about the work of their authors.
