The first novel after Olga Tokarczuk received the Nobel Prize is dedicated to Silesia just before the First World War. In some ways it is reminiscent of Thomas Mann's "The Magic Mountain", but most of all there are discussions and reminiscences about women. In parallel, we are told a story in which an unconscious feeling of horror accumulates, which those staying at the resort and local residents either do not realize or carefully hide. Again, the main character of the book, a student from Lvov, has a personal secret... The book is illustrated by the translator, mostly with postcards of the resort village, created before the First World War.
