Marienhof's memoir prose, as well as his novels, poems and plays, remained unknown to readers for many years. Only in the last decade have they begun to be published. But the “Immortal Trilogy,” Mariengof’s cherished desire, never became a book. The memoirs were published in parts and never in a single volume. The author was not among the “literary giants” of our century (in many ways this did not depend on him). But he became a “magnificent eyewitness” of a bygone era (this is what Mariengof’s comrade and friend V. Shershenevich said about himself, but this is fully applicable to Anatoly Borisovich himself). Modern memoirists rarely remember Mariengof. Evidence about him is scattered. Therefore, we decided to publish an essay by People's Artist of Russia Mikhail Kozakov, which, in our opinion, gives several additional touches to the portrait of Mariengof. But the author himself and his unique time are in the “Immortal Trilogy.”
