For centuries the Orochon people lived in the Yenisei taiga. They beat animals and birds, caught fish, grazed deer. Occasionally they “argued” with their neighbors – the Yakuts, and even then not to the point of death. More often they were related. And then tall “bright people” came, calling themselves Russians, and the quiet taiga life gradually began to change. The cramped tents were replaced by strong, spacious huts, instead of bows the Orochons now had well-aimed guns, but most importantly, the taiga remained the same: powerful, generous, dear. But suddenly, everything changed overnight. “Iron birds”—helicopters—came down from the sky and landed stern, determined people in the taiga, who began to destroy the centuries-old home of the Orochons, cutting through a wide clearing and leaving dead remains of trees along the edges. And then the frightened, desperate forest inhabitants turned to the guardian spirit of the taiga with a request to drive away the aliens...
