From the translator: “This book is the first to fully present the so-called. “Apocrypha” by Stanislaw Lem - his reviews of non-existent books and prefaces to non-existent books. Lemov’s pseudo-reviews were included in his collections “Absolute Emptiness” (1971), “Provocation” (1984), “Library of the 21st Century” (1986); pseudo-preface - in the collection “Imaginary Value” (1973). The treatise “Golem XIV” was first published in the collection “Imaginary Value”, and in 1981 it was published as a separate publication, almost twice as large in volume. “Lecture XLIII. About myself” and “Afterword”, but “Pre-Notice” and “Memo” are excluded. In this edition, at the direction of the author, all parts of “Golem XIV” are printed, incl. “Pre-Notice” and “Memo”. In addition, with the consent of the author, this book includes the story “Notes of the Almighty” (1963), which anticipated the idea of the collection “Imaginary Value” and has not yet been published in Russia.”
