"The End of a Chapter" - Galsworthy's last work - consists of three parts: "The Girl Waits (Waiting)" (1931), "The Desert in Bloom (Flower in the Desert)" (1932), "On the Other Shore (Across the River) )" (1933).
The plot of the first part is the struggle of the main character Dinny Cherrell to save her brother from the trial that threatens him.
The central conflict of the second part is the fight between “old” England and that part of its youth, who in the trenches of the First World War lost illusions about the justice of bourgeois civilization.
The third part is the story of the divorce proceedings of Dinny's sister Claire Corwen. Here the author returns to the problem of bourgeois marriage as a form of property, which he raised in The Forsyte Saga.
