John Galsway (1867–1933) is an English novelist and playwright, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature (1932). “The Chronicles of the Forsyte Family” is the story of a family clan of representatives of the big bourgeoisie, in whose destinies, as in a mirror, was reflected the fate of England itself at the turning point of the late 19th - early 20th centuries. The era of modernism, the First World War, “jazz culture” of the 20s. - the three generations of Forsytes seem to reflect all personality types of these eras. But this typicality of the images of the heroes of Galsworthy’s epic is only a frame for a truly interesting, fascinating story about men and women, love and betrayal, jealousy and hatred, friendship and betrayal. NOTE: Numerous book publications combine the history of the Forsyte family under the general title “The Forsyte Saga” . Galsworthy himself called only the first cycle of works "Saga". The "Saga" is preceded by the story "The Rescue of Forsyte", first published under the pseudonym John Sinjon. Between the second cycle "Modern Comedy" and the third, final "End of the Chapter" Galsworthy expanded the history of the Forsytes with a collection of short stories " On the Foresight exchange." In the preface, the author indicated that "... in terms of the time of action, they (the stories) stand between the "Saga" and the "Comedy", since without the "Saga" they will not be understood, and the action ends before the "Comedy" begins ..."In the same preface, the author refers to all his works about the Forsytes as "Chronicles of the Forsyte Family."* * *Read the entire cycle of the famous saga in one volume!!!
