A dissident (the Sinyavsky-Daniel trial) and a criminal, because “art itself is criminal, because it is obliged and doomed to transgress boundaries.” The novel “Good Night” is not fiction or a biography; its artistic authenticity consists of fantastic details of the author’s life.
