At all times, people associated holiness with the ability to perform miracles or heal with one touch of the hand. There have never been such legends around Mother Teresa (1910-1997), but the whole world - be it Christians or representatives of other religions - considers the good nun a saint. She became a saint, not by sending healing to the sick, but by giving them hope and love - and this was often a real miracle. Probably the fact is that in our callous and cynical world, Mother Teresa managed to preserve and give to many people the most precious thing on earth - inexhaustible love. She may not have healed the sick with the touch of her hand, but she spent her entire life healing souls. Mother Teresa became the most famous nun of the 20th century. Even now, when more than ten years have passed since her death, the popularity of this great woman is still enormous. The beatification (beatification) of Mother Teresa occurred just six years after her death - an unprecedented case in the modern history of the Catholic Church. Mother Teresa never aspired to wealth and fame; she considered her only mission to be helping those who were sick, weak or disadvantaged . For her, neither national, nor religious, nor social differences were important - she called all people the children of God and sincerely loved everyone whose life she had to save. The activities of Mother Teresa were a kind of “bridge” between the poorest residents of the slums and the inhabitants of luxurious mansions. When meeting wealthy people, the nun convinced them to pay attention to those who are nearby and who are now having a hard time. She often repeated: “The greatest joy lies in devoting oneself to the service of others,” and throughout her life, Mother Teresa brought love and compassion to those who needed it. The Order of Mercy, created by her in 1948, has been bringing light and hope to the disadvantaged around the world for many years. Currently, the Order has 400 branches in 111 countries and 700 houses of mercy in 120 countries. Its missions typically operate in disaster areas and economically distressed regions. In 1979, Mother Teresa was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize “for her work to help suffering people.”
