This volume includes one of the most unusual works of the Strugatsky brothers - the story "A Billion Years Before the End of the World", which belongs to the genre of philosophical fiction and is riddled with many literary, historical and metaphysical allusions. Subsequently, the story was used as the basis for the script of the film by A. Sokurov "Days of the Eclipse" - however, the Strugatskys' original differs sharply from the film in terms of plot.
