The fourth volume of The History of the British Navy is dedicated to the events of the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714), when large-scale hostilities by England, France, Holland and Spain, using grandiose fleets and squadrons, swept the coastal waters of Britain, the Mediterranean Sea , Caribbean Islands and coast of Canada.
For the cover design, a fragment of a painting by the artist Jean Guden was used.
