The cycle of short stories-letters "Menachem-Mendl" is one of the most striking works of the famous Jewish writer Sholom Aleichem. His hero, Menachem Mendl, is a poor Jew from a shtetl, frantically trying to get out of poverty and hoping to find his happiness in a big city, where he takes on the most incredible undertakings. A gullible, impractical and narrow-minded person, he is constantly deceived and fails. He tells his wife about each of his undertakings in letters, first enthusiastic, then desperate. Her answers, full of sobriety and common sense, do not affect his decisions in any way. This correspondence is like a dialogue of the deaf, where everyone speaks his own.
The text of the book was translated from the original language using an artificial intelligence program. For the most part, the translation of the text is of very high quality, but in some cases, due to the imperfection of the technology, there may be incorrect phrase translations in the text, as well as single words and expressions may not be translated.
