“Conversations on the Purpose of Christian Life” is a small, but extremely important work for every Christian, written down from the words of St. Seraphim of Sarov by his cell-attendant N. Motovilov. The lost manuscript of the work was discovered 70 years later in the papers of the wife of Nikolai Alexandrovich, Elena Ivanovna Motovilova. In the book, in extremely simple words, full of joy and humility, Seraphim of Sarov explains what the true Christian life, life in the Spirit, is like. An unusual conversation between the Monk Seraphim and Nikolai Motovilov about the goal of Christian life took place in 1831 in a forest not far from the Sarov monastery, and was recorded by Motovilov.
