The word "foolishness" in its original meaning is a spiritual and ascetic feat, a rejection of worldly goods and the behavior that is commonly called "reasonable". Such a person, who does not care about his own life, tells the truth to everyone and fears only God, almost always seems to be a fool or a madman, but the "reasonable" still listen to the holy fool. Isn't this a miracle? In Rus', the voice of the holy fool was considered the "voice of God", and it is not surprising that the image of the "holy fool for Christ's sake" is reflected in many works of Russian literature. One of the most striking works written by O. Somov, N. Leskov , G. Uspensky, I. Bunin and B. Zaitsev, compiled this collection.
