The main character of the novel by the famous Italian writer Bianca Pitzorno is a girl from a very poor family, born in a small town on the island of Sardinia at the end of the 19th century. She taught herself to read, loves women's romance novels and Puccini's operas, but even if in the depths of her soul she dreams of a handsome prince, in real life she relies only on her mind and skillful hands. Through the eyes of a young dressmaker entering rich houses, we see amazing stories residents of her town. There are love dramas, broken hearts and even murder (and maybe suicide?). Many gentlemen were after her, but she easily restrained their ardor, always politely and without insulting a couple of humorous phrases, making it clear that they should stay away. This was another reason for me to admire her. Men in those days seemed ridiculous to me, especially when they tried to court girls: their meaningless, sugary-sweet phrases and some actions were only suitable for opera librettos. The book is reminiscent of the classic novels that the main character loves to read so much, and at the same time in She raises very modern themes of female independence, faith in one’s own strengths, freedom and finding one’s own path. In addition, Miss had an expensive camera, as well as a bicycle for trips around the surrounding area... Not a single local woman, regardless of nobility and income, would ride a bicycle and I would not have dared to sit down: even Signorina Esther, who had dreamed of bicycle rides since childhood, her father would never have allowed this. For anyone For everyone who loves Italy, historical novels and family sagas, ancient and touching stories about women who achieve everything with their minds and hard work, but still remain feminine and romantic. For everyone who has read Bianca Pitzorno’s children’s stories and is ready to get acquainted with her work for adults. “Listen,” said Miss very seriously. – You are young and you might fall in love. But never, remember, never let a man disrespect you, stop you from doing what seems right and necessary, what you like. Your life is yours alone, remember that. You don't owe anything to anyone, only to yourself.
