Modern European civilization owes much to Ancient Greece. Over their two-thousand-year history, the Greeks created a reasonable economic system based on the use of labor and natural resources, a civil social structure, a polis organization with a republican system, and a high culture that had a huge influence on the development of Roman and world culture. In this book, first published in 1912 . entitled “Book for reading on Ancient history. Part I,” tells about the everyday, private and public life of ancient Greece, about outstanding statesmen, philosophers, writers and military leaders. The reader will attend a public meeting in Athens, become a participant in conversations between Socrates, Plato and Aristotle, learn many details of Greek life, and visit Olbia, one of the flourishing cities of Tauris. Among the participants in this unusual project were the future luminaries of Soviet historical science - N.A. Kuhn, V.N. Pertsev, S.I. Radzig, A.A. Fortunatov, A.M. Vasyutinsky, N.M. Nikolsky, K.V. Sivkov, V.N. Dyakov and others.
