This book is dedicated to the Grand Duke of Moscow, “Sovereign of All Rus'” Ivan III (1462–1505). Already his contemporaries called him Ivan the Great. His political achievements are undeniable: he united the disunited Russian lands into the powerful Moscow state, saved the country from the oppressive power of the Horde, and brought it out of a historical impasse. However, to this day the complex and tragic personality of Ivan III, whose biography vividly reflected all the drama of that turning point, remains essentially undisclosed and incomprehensible. An in-depth reading of surviving historical sources allowed the author of the book to discern behind the familiar monumental mask of the “Sovereign of All Rus'” the true face of one of the main figures of Russian history.

Вражаюче дослідження історичної постаті!
Книга про Івана III - це справжня знахідка для всіх, хто цікавиться історією Росії та її великими князями. Автор майстерно розкриває складну особистість Івана III, показуючи не лише його політичні досягнення, але й внутрішні переживання та виклики, з якими йому доводилося стикатися. Читач має можливість зануритися в епоху, коли Московська держава лише починала формуватися, а Іван Великий став ключовою фігурою у цьому процесі. Проте, незважаючи на вражаючі досягнення, автор не оминає увагою і трагічні моменти його життя, що робить портрет князя ще більш реалістичним і багатогранним. Переклад, хоч і має деякі недоліки, не заважає загальному сприйняттю тексту, і я вважаю, що ця книга буде цікавою не лише історикам, але й широкій аудиторії, яка прагне зрозуміти, як формувалася сучасна Росія. Рекомендую всім, хто цінує якісну історичну літературу!
