The name of the Grand Duke of Moscow Dmitry Ivanovich, nicknamed Donskoy (1350–1389), was forever associated with the great victory on the Kulikovo field, which marked the beginning of the liberation of Rus' from the power of the Horde khans. That is why the personality of the prince himself is extremely mythologized in our minds: the place of a real politician with all his advantages and disadvantages was taken by a certain ideal image of an invincible commander and a saint canonized by the Church. But in history everything is much more complicated. The author of the book, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Nikolai Sergeevich Borisov, talks about his hero with maximum detail and objectivity, drawing on all currently available historical sources and restoring a complex and diverse picture of the life of Rus' in the second half of the 14th century.
