The Unworthy Man is Osamu Dazai's most famous story. The work is largely autobiographical - many critics believe that the author himself is depicted in the image of Yozo Oba: a suffering man who destroys his life without finding a place in it. And, as if drawing a line under his own existence and putting all of himself into the story, soon after the release of “The Unworthy Man,” Dazai threw himself into one of the Tokyo watersheds. This work is known all over the world. It formed the basis of a film, manga, and several anime. The story is published in a new translation.
