King Bjorn Sharptooth, ruler of Winterwald, announces the Great Trial. The winner of this test will become the husband of the king's daughter, Princess Astrid. Charles III, wanting to prevent Northlander raids on his northern borders, decides to enter into an alliance with the king and sends his youngest son, Prince Louis, to the capital of Winterwald to participate in the Great Test. Impressed by Max's skill Renard as a swordsman, Prince Louis invites him to join the northern embassy, to which Max Renard agrees.
