Jacob Hunt is eighteen years old. He has a severe form of autism. The young man is not able to communicate normally with others and takes everything too literally. For all that, he is a gifted mathematician and an excellent analyst with a passion for criminology. Using an illegal police scanner, he finds out where the next crime has been committed and tells the police in which direction to investigate. And usually he turns out to be right. But when a brutal murder occurs in the city, the police come to the Hunts’ house. Detectives, unfamiliar with the symptoms of autism, mistake Jacob's odd behavior for remorse and make him the prime suspect. For Jacob's mother, this is yet another evidence of society's intolerance, and for his younger brother, it is another reminder of the abnormal situation in the family due to Jacob's illness. And here the question arises: could Jacob commit murder?

Книга "Домашні правила" відкриває перед читачем світ, в якому живе Джейкоб Хант — хлопець з аутизмом, що має унікальний дар у математиці та криміналістиці. Автор майстерно передає внутрішній світ Джейкоба, його переживання та труднощі, з якими він стикається у повсякденному житті. Читач відчуває всю глибину його ізоляції та боротьби за визнання в суспільстві, яке часто не розуміє людей з особливими потребами. Сюжет, що обертається навколо розслідування злочинів, додає динаміки та напруги, змушуючи читача переживати за долю героя. Книга піднімає важливі питання про толерантність, прийняття та стереотипи, з якими стикаються люди з аутизмом. Незважаючи на деякі недоліки в перекладі, які незначно впливають на сприйняття тексту, я б рекомендував цю книгу всім, хто хоче краще зрозуміти людей з особливими потребами та їхні переживання. Це не просто детективна історія, а глибокий та зворушливий погляд на життя, яке варто прочитати.
