The new book by the famous Israeli philologist Michael Weiskopf is dedicated to the religious and metaphysical quest of Russian romanticism, which found expression in his love lyrics and interpretation of erotic themes. This issue is associated in the study not only with various Western influences, but also with the Russian spiritual tradition, rooted in Eastern Christianity. Russian romanticism in its entirety is considered here as a single body of works connected by the unity of the central plot. The monograph uses a colossal amount of material, most of which was introduced into scientific use for the first time. M. Weiskopf's book radically changes the existing ideas about the nature of Russian romanticism and its role in the history of our culture. In this chapter, as before, we will move from fairly well-known ideas to concepts that are much less studied, and most importantly, to their metaphysical and religious basis , which for the most part eludes Romantic Russian scholars or simply does not fall within the scope of their professional interests.
